MSA214: Project Management -- Credit: 3 (2, 1)

Course Description
The position of project management is a specialist’s primary responsibility in sustainable agriculture to serve as a technical advisor on all issues pertaining to agriculture and rural development. This position is responsible for the design, planning, monitoring and evaluation of agriculture and rural development activities within the economics growth, and it is expected to provide input into livestock, forestry and fisheries programs as needed. Thus, the key subjects of project management included the overview of project management, project initiation, project planning and project execution, project monitoring and evaluation, project closing, and project proposal/ instructional design projects. In addition, in term of the key subjects it includes project integration, project scope management, project timeframe/logframe, analysis of problem tree and objective tree, and the cost management, quality management, human resource considerations, communications, risk management and procurement management.

Learning Outcomes
After completion of the courses, students will be able to:

  • Understand the functions/tasks and role of project implementing management;
  • Understand and know how to use some technical tools in project management;
  • Know some common problems arising during project implementation;
  • Understand and know how to plan for effective implementation;
  • Understand the analysis of problem tree and objective tree, the project logframe, and the budget preparation and management;
  • Learn parts of knowledge and skills to create a formal project planning document;
  • Know how to manage towards effective and successful project implementation;
  • Know how to produce/develop a project proposal;
  • Identify major stakeholders and potential factors that impact successful project during the project life cycle;
  • Understand the key importance in regard to monitor and evaluation during and after implementation of the project;
  • Know the function and responsibilities of a project manager and qualities of a good project manager; and
  • Recognize the importance of consulting skills in working with teams, stakeholders and community levels within properly manage and guide based projects.
